Lusaka, 17.03.26 -ZSIC General Insurance Limited has handed over a cheque amounting to K2,616,377.32 to the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts to fund repairs to the damaged roof at the National Heroes Stadium.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, ZSIC General Insurance Managing Director, Trevor Jengajenga, said the payout reflects the companyโs commitment to national responsibility and its mandate to protect assets of strategic importance.
Mr. Jengajenga reaffirmed the companyโs role as the nationโs leading insurer and a key partner in safeguarding critical public infrastructure.
He noted that the stadium roof suffered damage in two storm-related incidents, and the claim amount was determined through expert technical assessments in line with standard settlement procedures.
Mr. Jengajenga emphasized that ZSIC General Insurance remains financially strong and reliable, revealing that the company paid out more than K500 million in claims in 2025 across multiple sectors, including agriculture, motor, public-sector assets and CDF-backed portfolios.
Receiving the cheque, Minister of Youth, Sport and Arts, Elvis Nkandu commended ZSIC General Insurance for honouring the claim and supporting Governmentโs broader programme to rehabilitate and upgrade the National Heroes Stadium.
The Minister highlighted that while the installation of a new hybrid turf has already improved the facility, the roof repairs remain essential before competitive matches can resume.
Mr. Nkandu also clarified that previous delays in the repair works were due to the necessary insurance processes, which have now been concluded, allowing the restoration project to move forward.
โThe works on the roof are critical because certain sections of the stadium infrastructure cannot be fully utilized until the necessary repairs are completed. This is why todayโs handover by zsic general insurance limited is important,โ Mr. Nkandu said.
He emphasised that government has prioritised insurance of key public infrastructure including sports facilities.
